In short

Operate machinery and move products under supervision in a manufacturing environment. This entry-level position requires the ability to read blueprints, perform shop mathematics, and possess good manual dexterity. The role involves working shifts up to 12 hours and over 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and set-up a variety of power machinery including shear, roll, punch, cope, form, and robotics.
  • Work from blueprints, order pickers, routing tickets, cutting lists, shop drawings, and architect drawings.
  • Calculate gauging and set-ups for special work and make necessary adjustments.
  • Attach fire labels and identification labels.
  • Crosstrain with other operators and in other areas.
  • Maintain necessary paperwork.
  • Move material into and out of the work area.
  • Assess quality of work-in-process.
  • Perform shop preventive maintenance duties.
  • Check order status to ensure proper and timely processing.

Requirements

  • 6 months of manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and write legibly.
  • Ability to read blueprints, shop drawings, and work from sketches.
  • Good knowledge of shop mathematics, work-in-process, and finished product.
  • Good manual dexterity and coordination.
  • Physically able to lift up to 51 lbs. for approximately 60% of the time.
  • Ability to work up to 12-hour shifts and more than 40 hours per week as scheduled.
  • Ability to work on own initiative without immediate supervision.
  • Ability to adjust and use computerized gauging.
  • Ability to attain knowledge of metric dimensions.
  • Ability to easily communicate with people.
  • Ability to walk and stand for the entire shift.
  • Forklift, hand truck, power ox, and overhead crane certification required (training and testing provided if needed).

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with presses (gang, power brake, hydraulic, drill), shear, spot welder, projection welder, rolling machine, and laser.
  • Experience with small tools like tape measure, square, angle protractor, caliper, gauges, wrenches, testing equipment, and scales.
  • Experience with MIG welder and grinder.
