HCLTech is seeking an experienced Mainframe Storage Engineer/Specialist for their Support & Ops team in Chennai or Bengaluru. The role focuses on the administration, availability, capacity, performance, and modernization of enterprise IBM Z storage environments, requiring expertise in DFSMS, DASD, Tape, SMS, and related tools. The ideal candidate will collaborate with various teams to ensure highly available and resilient storage services.

Ansvarsområden

Administer, configure, maintain, and support IBM Z Mainframe storage environments (DASD, tape, virtual tape).
Manage and support DFSMS, DFSMSdss, DFSMShsm, and SMS configurations and policies.
Perform DASD capacity management, allocation, provisioning, monitoring, reclamation, and optimisation.
Administer DFSMShsm functions including migration, recall, backup, recovery, and space management.
Manage catalogs and VSAM-related storage activities.
Support tape management, virtual tape environments, and media-management processes.
Monitor storage utilisation, capacity, availability, performance, I/O activity, and growth trends.
Perform problem determination for storage-related incidents using system logs, storage reports, and diagnostic tools.
Support storage hardware provisioning, volume configuration, and device management.
Support storage replication and recovery technologies for business continuity and disaster recovery.
Participate in DR exercises and resiliency assessments.
Perform and support storage software installation, upgrades, and maintenance.
Develop and maintain REXX, JCL, ISMF procedures, or other automation for efficiency.
Maintain technical documentation, including storage architecture, capacity records, and operational procedures.
Identify opportunities for storage optimisation, automation, modernisation, and cost reduction.

Krav

Strong hands-on knowledge of IBM z/OS Mainframe Storage Management.
Expertise in DFSMS / DFSMSdfp, DFSMShsm (HSM), DFSMSdss, and Storage Management Subsystem (SMS).
Experience with DASD management and capacity planning.
Proficiency in configuring SMS Storage Classes, Management Classes, Data Classes, Storage Groups, and ACS routines.
Knowledge of VSAM, IDCAMS and catalog management.
Experience with Tape and Virtual Tape management.
Familiarity with dataset allocation, migration, recall, backup, restore, archive, and recovery processes.
Experience with storage performance monitoring using RMF, SMF, and storage-management tools.
Understanding of I/O, channels, storage devices, volumes, and IBM Z storage concepts.
Proficiency in TSO/ISPF, ISMF and JCL.
Experience with REXX / scripting and storage automation.
Knowledge of disaster recovery and storage resiliency concepts.
Strong skills in storage capacity, performance, and utilisation management.
Experience with incident, problem, and change management processes.
Strong troubleshooting and root-cause-analysis skills.

Önskade kvalifikationer

Exposure to IBM DS8000 family or comparable enterprise storage platforms.
Exposure to IBM TS7700 Virtual Tape Library and enterprise tape technologies.
Familiarity with storage replication and resiliency technologies such as Metro Mirror, Global Mirror, and HyperSwap.
Knowledge of GDPS and IBM Z disaster-recovery/storage-resiliency concepts.
Understanding of FICON and IBM Z storage connectivity.
Experience with IBM Copy Services Manager (CSM) or equivalent storage replication-management solutions.
Familiarity with mainframe tape-management products like CA 1, Control-T, RMM, or equivalent.
Experience with mainframe storage monitoring, reporting, capacity, and performance-analysis tools.
Understanding of CICS, Db2, IMS, IBM MQ storage requirements and concepts.
Knowledge of RACF and Mainframe storage security concepts.
Experience with enterprise backup, archive, retention, and data-protection technologies.
Involvement in storage migration, consolidation, hardware refresh, and technology-upgrade projects.
Experience with Ansible, Python, Git, REST APIs, or DevOps automation in a Mainframe/storage environment.
Familiarity with mainframe storage modernisation and integration with hybrid-cloud, cyber-resiliency, and enterprise data-protection platforms.
