Volvo Cars seeks an experienced Patent Attorney to join their Global IP team. This role involves protecting the company's technological innovations, managing patent portfolios, and advising on IP strategies in collaboration with engineering teams. The position is based in Gothenburg, Sweden, and requires a degree in a technical field and at least three years of patent experience.

Ansvarsområden

Foster a culture of innovation and provide guidance to Engineering teams.
Implement business-relevant IP strategies and lead in assigned areas.
Identify and protect inventions in collaboration with inventors.
Develop the IP Portfolio in line with technology roadmaps.
Assess patent-related risks and counsel on freedom-to-operate.
Evaluate invention disclosures and manage the drafting and prosecution of applications.
Oversee external costs from external attorneys to ensure high-quality work.
Advise on licensing and contractual matters, and review IP clauses.
Handle patent disputes and litigation.
Translate IP law principles into practical actions that deliver business value.
Collaborate with Global Intellectual Property teams in Sweden, the US, and China, as well as other internal departments.

Krav

Qualified or partly qualified European and/or national patent attorney.
Degree/Master of Science in a relevant technical field (e.g., electronic engineering, engineering physics, applied physics, computer science, or ICT).
At least 3 years of patent experience at a law firm, patent office, or in-house IP department.
Expertise in both software-implemented and mechanical inventions.
Knowledge of patent law and practice of major jurisdictions, including obtaining and defending patent rights and challenging third-party patent rights.
Proven analytical skills and experience in decision-making, negotiation, and developing solutions within IP areas.
Commercial mindset, viewing IP as a strategic business asset.
Ability to anticipate future business and legal risks and seek creative solutions.
Business-minded, structured, and detail-oriented with a strong focus on results and continuous improvement.
Ability to embrace change, work effectively to deadlines, and thrive in a collaborative environment.
Integrity and discretion.
Excellent written and spoken English.
