Microsoft is looking for a Software Engineer II to join the Windows Silicon and System Integration team. The role focuses on optimizing GPU and AI workloads within the Windows OS for performance, power, and reliability. This hybrid position requires a Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of coding experience in languages like C++, C#, or Python.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze AI and GPU code and OS for performance, power, and reliability.
  • Use tools to collect telemetry, logs, analyze bugs/bottlenecks, and determine next steps.
  • Design, implement, and test feature and OS improvements in the latest Windows OS.
  • Collaborate with local and external partners to plan and execute improvements.
  • Build secure, scalable, compliant code using AI and review human- and AI-generated code.
  • Utilize agentic AI and processes to enhance daily workflows.
  • Contribute to architecture discussions and design documents, ensuring performance, reliability, accessibility, privacy, and compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, or Python.
  • OR equivalent experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge in Modern OS and application analysis (Windows, Linux, etc.).
  • 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, [C, C++, C#, Python, or other relevant languages].
  • Experience in AI workloads, APIs, application development (ONNX, ONNX Runtime, AI Models, AI / NPU HW and driver development).
  • Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) API knowledge (DirectX, Vulkan, etc..), graphical application development (games, 3D, game engines).
  • Familiarity with benchmark usage (3Dmark, Procyon AI, MLPerf, etc.) and performance analysis.

Benefits

  • Typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $102,100 - $202,200 per year.
  • Different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco area and New York City metropolitan area.
  • Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
