Sandvik Mining is seeking a licensed Heavy Duty Mechanic for a full-time, on-site position in Central Canada. The role involves troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of mining equipment, with a focus on mechanical and electrical systems. A minimum of 3 years of experience and relevant trade certification are required.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect equipment for proper performance and determine faults and malfunctions.
  • Repair/replace defective parts, components, or systems according to the scope of work.
  • Test repaired equipment to ensure proper operational performance.
  • Commission new equipment.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Complete accurate time records, technical reports, failure reports, and parts lists.
  • Stay current with industry, customer, product developments, and technical best practices.
  • Comply with safety policies and regulations.
  • Perform risk assessments prior to each task.
  • Maintain hand tools and equipment to ensure safe operation.

Requirements

  • Relevant trade certification (Red Seal is required at many sites and considered an asset).
  • At least 3 years related experience with heavy equipment.
  • Previous experience with mining equipment is considered an asset.
  • Excellent proficiency in reading hydraulic and electrical schematics.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and mechanical issues with mining equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to local mine sites and across Canada as required.
  • Ability and willingness to work varied shifts (as required).
  • Computer literacy (MS Office).
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

Desired Qualifications

  • Red Seal certification is an asset.
  • Previous experience with mining equipment is considered an asset.
