In short

The Principal Technical Program Manager will lead critical cross-organizational programs focused on customer trust in areas like security, compliance, privacy, and responsible AI. This role involves translating complex technical and regulatory requirements into actionable roadmaps and operating mechanisms, while driving the adoption of agentic tools and automation to reduce engineering toil and improve execution predictability.

Responsibilities

  • Define strategy, program architecture, goals, success criteria, and multi-semester roadmaps for large trust, security, compliance, and AI-accelerating automation programs.
  • Translate security, regulatory, quality, privacy, resilience, and responsible AI obligations into clear engineering requirements, prioritized backlogs, and implementation plans.
  • Lead end-to-end execution across multiple feature areas and organizations, managing dependencies, schedules, pilots, rollouts, governance, risk mitigation, and escalations.
  • Partner with engineering and subject-matter experts to design scalable technical solutions, validate use cases, identify gaps, and make data-informed recommendations.
  • Establish metrics and telemetry to measure adoption, remediation effectiveness, engineering toil, regression, reliability, and business impact, using insights for continuous improvement.
  • Drive critical governed-program execution by tracking progress, resolving blockers, improving accountability, and sustaining performance against defined targets.
  • Lead the development and adoption of agentic tools, skills, automation frameworks, and AI-ready guidance that simplify or automate compliance and security remediation.
  • Create repeatable playbooks, onboarding guides, training, communications, and support models for engineering teams and champions.
  • Build strong cross-organizational partnerships across product, engineering, security, compliance, legal, operations, and platform teams; influence decisions and secure alignment without direct authority.
  • Communicate program status, decisions, risks, tradeoffs, outcomes, and asks to executives and broad stakeholder audiences.
  • Triage emerging issues, analyze technical and process failures, coordinate owners, and drive problems through resolution while identifying durable fixes.
  • Model Microsoft culture and values, mentor partners and program managers, and raise the quality bar for program management, technical clarity, and accountable execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: required upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 12+ years experience engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • 1+ year(s) of experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos).
  • Demonstrated experience translating ambiguous business, security, compliance, or regulatory needs into clear technical requirements, roadmaps, success criteria, and execution plans.
  • Experience leading programs across security, compliance, privacy, risk, reliability, quality, responsible AI, or other trust-related engineering domains.
  • Experience defining and using metrics, dashboards, telemetry, or analytical queries to assess program health, prioritize work, identify systemic issues, and guide executive decisions.
  • Proven ability to influence engineering and business leaders, drive accountability, resolve conflicts, and align teams across organizational boundaries without direct authority.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills, including experience producing executive-ready plans, requirements, decision documents, status updates, and technical guidance.
  • Working knowledge of modern software engineering lifecycles, cloud services, source control, issue tracking, operational readiness, and secure development practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple high-priority programs simultaneously, make sound decisions with incomplete information, and move between strategic planning and tactical execution.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and government security-screening requirements associated with the role.
  • Deep experience with Microsoft security and engineering systems such as S360, Service Tree, Kusto, Azure DevOps, GitHub, Power BI, incident management, or comparable enterprise platforms.
  • Experience designing or operationalizing AI agents, copilots, automation frameworks, evaluation systems, or telemetry for AI-assisted engineering workflows.
  • Experience reading code, reviewing technical designs, partnering on architecture, or creating technical demonstrations and implementation guidance.
  • Subject-matter expertise in one or more areas such as security operations, vulnerability management, compliance engineering, cloud governance, responsible AI, privacy, resilience, or regulated and sovereign cloud environments.
  • Experience building scalable operating models, governed programs, playbooks, champion communities, training programs, or organizational change and adoption strategies.
  • Advanced analytical capability using Kusto Query Language, SQL, Power BI, or comparable tools to create actionable program insights and automated reporting.
  • Track record of influencing senior leadership, shaping investment priorities, securing cross-team commitments, and delivering durable outcomes in a highly matrixed organization.
