Responsibilities
- Build and improve automation components to accelerate link and device restoration.
- Troubleshoot network failures at the component level using various monitoring and orchestration tools.
- Develop link test plans and diagnostic output for system-guided troubleshooting.
- Extend and integrate with existing tooling to improve monitoring and alerting for out-of-service capacity.
- Create and maintain team-level operational metrics and monitors tied to KPIs.
- Write clean, testable Python code with documentation.
- Contribute to design reviews and operational improvement discussions.
- Participate in on-call rotations and follow-the-sun coverage.
- Document systems, tools, and runbooks clearly.
Requirements
- 1+ years of computer networking experience, or experience with network equipment installation and configuration.
- Experience in one or more scripting languages (e.g., Python, Ruby, Perl).
- Knowledge of IP networking fundamentals and extensive experience in the application of IP protocols.
- Experience in major internet routing protocols, specifically BGP and OSPF.
- Experience in a Linux or Unix environment.
- Experience reading and understanding complex code.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or equivalent experience.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with automation and any version control tools.
- Experience in networking administration and troubleshooting.
- Experience in Linux and Networking protocols.
- Experience working in large-scale networking environments.
- Exposure to Amazon internal tooling (workflow orchestration engines, deployment automation tools, etc.).
- Experience with configuration management or deployment automation.
- Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools or event-driven architectures.
- Knowledge of BGP or OSPF routing protocols in production network environments.
- Exposure to optical networking (DWDM, fiber testing, or coherent optics).
- Experience with link testing methodologies.
- CCNA, JNCIA, or equivalent networking certification.
