Msc Thesis- Optimization of Truck Cabin Climate
Construction, Engineering & Trades · Civil & Industrial Engineering · Mechanical Engineering
In short
This Master's thesis project focuses on optimizing truck cabin climate control to balance thermal comfort and energy consumption. It involves analyzing ventilation, temperature control, and HVAC strategies to identify improvements for enhanced driver comfort and reduced energy use, with a starting date in January 2027.
Responsibilities
- Investigate and develop strategies for optimizing truck cabin climate control with respect to thermal comfort and energy consumption.
- Analyze how ventilation airflow, air temperature, and climate control strategies affect the thermal environment within the cabin.
- Identify operating conditions or control strategies that provide an improved and more uniform thermal comfort while reducing the energy required by the HVAC system.
Requirements
- Candidates should be in their final year of Master studies.
- Preferably in areas of thermal/fluid or automotive specialization.
- Experience with Thermodynamics and heat transfer.
- Experience with Fluid mechanics / ventilation.
- Experience with HVAC or indoor climate.
- Experience with Numerical methods and simulation.
- Experience with Optimization.
- Experience with Control systems.
- Experience with Vehicle engineering or automotive systems.
- Experience with Thermal comfort / human thermal physiology — helpful but not necessarily required.
Benefits
- Opportunity to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future.
- Work with next-gen technologies and collaborative teams.
- Gain a detailed understanding of factors influencing thermal comfort in a truck cabin.
- Develop quantitative relationships between ventilation settings, temperature control, thermal comfort, and energy consumption.
- Identify critical areas or operating conditions associated with thermal discomfort.
- Evaluate existing or baseline HVAC control performance.
- Develop optimized ventilation and temperature control strategies.
- Quantify potential energy savings while maintaining an acceptable level of thermal comfort.
- Provide recommendations for further development of truck cabin climate control systems.
- Opportunity to join Volvo Group, a leading industrial company.
- Work with iconic brands and be part of a global company.
- Contribute to a more sustainable tomorrow.
