Master's thesis: AI Driven 3D Radar for Drone Detection with 6G ISAC
Technology, Data & Digital · Software & Web Development · Software Engineering · Data Science · Embedded Systems
In short
Responsibilities
- Review 6G ISAC principles, distributed multistatic radar architectures, and RF-based drone detection.
- Specify and integrate radar hardware with researchers at TU Graz.
- Plan and carry out measurement campaigns to record raw radar data and micro-Doppler signatures of drones.
- Implement and benchmark the radar processing chain on embedded edge hardware.
- Deploy and evaluate a CNN-based detection model on the edge platform.
- Fine-tune the detection model on newly collected data.
- Connect radar nodes to 5G modems to stream detections to a central server.
- Contribute to scaling the setup into a distributed testbed of at least five measurement nodes.
Requirements
- Enrolled in a Master’s programme in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a similar field.
- Solid background in digital signal processing, linear algebra, and radar principles (FMCW, FFT processing, CFAR).
- Good programming skills in Python and/or C/C++.
- Ability to communicate well in English.
- Ability to work independently in an international team across RISE and TU Graz.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with MATLAB/Simulink.
- Experience with embedded Linux.
- Experience with edge platforms such as NVIDIA Jetson.
- Interest in sensor fusion.
- Interest in state estimation (e.g. Kalman filtering).
- Interest in applied machine learning.
Benefits
- Flexible start time.
- Scope: 30 hp (approx. 20-30 weeks, full-time).
- Opportunity to work with cutting-edge 6G ISAC technology.
- Collaboration with researchers at RISE and TU Graz.
- Hands-on experimental work with real hardware.
Skills
As the challenges facing us as a society become increasingly complex, innovation alone is not enough; you need a strong innovation partner who can provide comprehensive support and a broad range of perspectives. This is where RISE comes in. RISE is a unique mobilisation of resources to increase the pace of innovation in our society. By gathering a number of research institutes and over a hundred test beds and demonstration environments under the umbrella of a single innovation partner, we create improved conditions for society’s problem solvers. We gather around challenges and organise…
