Responsibilities
- Supervise and support a team of HGV Technicians within the workshop.
- Allocate and prioritise work to ensure jobs are completed efficiently and on time.
- Oversee servicing, maintenance, inspections and repairs of HGVs and commercial vehicles.
- Ensure all work is completed to manufacturer and company standards.
- Maintain high standards of health & safety and workshop housekeeping.
- Carry out quality checks and ensure vehicles are safe and roadworthy before release.
- Diagnose and assist with complex technical issues when required.
- Monitor workshop productivity, efficiency and job progress.
- Liaise with service advisors, transport operators, customers and other departments.
- Support technician training, development and performance.
- Ensure all relevant paperwork, job cards and maintenance records are completed accurately.
- Promote a positive, professional and safety-focused workshop environment.
- Work closely with the team to create high levels of morale and focus to ensure work is completed in a timely manner and with excellence in quality.
- Communicate effectively with the Workshop Controller and CSR’s to ensure technicians have valid job specifications and time budget prior to work commencing.
- Manage customer expectations at all times by working with each stage of the Genuine Volvo Service process.
- Maximise the shifts performance through effective problem solving, coaching & development.
Requirements
- Qualified to NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair.
- Workshop experience – ideally in trucks/buses – with some supervisory know-how.
- A strong communicator who can get the best out of a team.
- Organised, proactive, and customer-focused.
- Full UK driving licence (HGV licence a big plus).
- Ability to manage and motivate a team of technicians in their daily activities.
- Ability to effectively communicate at all levels both written and verbally.
- Ability to work in an organised & methodical manner ensuring that all daily tasks are completed.
- Ability to delegate work to the appropriate personnel.
- Ability to operate GDS and Impact systems, specific to the GVS process stages.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook.
