Construction, Engineering & Trades · Civil & Industrial Engineering · Chemical Engineering · Manufacturing Engineering

In short

Traton offers a thesis project focused on circular plastics for future truck components. The project involves investigating plastic waste from the truck value chain, characterizing materials, and manufacturing/evaluating component demonstrators to assess feasibility and meet requirements. This role is ideal for Master's students in relevant engineering fields.

Responsibilities

  • Review relevant literature and define characterization and evaluation approach.
  • Identify and document sources and condition of collected plastic materials.
  • Characterize selected materials and compare their properties with virgin material.
  • Assess material preparation and manufacturing considerations.
  • Manufacture selected truck component demonstrators using suitable recovered material.
  • Evaluate demonstrators against defined requirements using agreed test methods.
  • Analyze results and draw conclusions about feasibility, limitations, and further work.
  • Collaborate with engineers, researchers, and students on related CIRCAB2 topics.
  • Present results and recommendations for future development.

Requirements

  • Master’s student in materials engineering, polymer technology, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, manufacturing engineering, product development or a related field.
  • Good collaboration skills.

Desired Qualifications

  • An interest in polymers, material characterization, testing, manufacturing and circular use of materials is valuable.
  • Experience with laboratory work, data analysis or component testing is an advantage.

Benefits

  • Opportunity to get to know Traton and build relationships for the future.
  • The project is expected to correspond to a 30 hp master’s thesis.
