Thesis Worker 30 hp - Can foam predict lubricant ageing?

Manufacturing & Production · Production & Assembly · Manufacturing Engineering

In short

This thesis project at TRATON AB focuses on investigating the relationship between lubricant ageing and foam behaviour to improve condition monitoring and sustainable maintenance strategies. The role involves laboratory experiments, data analysis, and literature review for M.Sc. students in relevant engineering fields.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct a literature review on lubricant ageing, oxidation processes, additives performance and foam formation.
  • Develop an experimental plan for accelerated lubricant ageing.
  • Perform laboratory testing and lubricant characterization.
  • Evaluate foaming behaviour using both standardized and alternative testing approaches.
  • Analyse and correlate results from different lubricant analyses.
  • Assess the potential of foam-related parameters as indicators of lubricant condition.
  • Document findings in a written report and present results to relevant stakeholders within TRATON.

Requirements

  • M.Sc. student in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or Engineering Physics.
  • Motivated student who enjoys hands-on experimental work.
  • Eager to explore new technologies.
  • Thrives in collaborative environments.
  • Comfortable working independently while collaborating with experts from different technical areas.
  • The position is for 1 student.
  • Duration: 20 weeks, full-time (40 hours/week).
  • Start: January 2027.
  • Credits: 30hp.

Benefits

  • Opportunity to contribute to sustainable mobility.
  • Build relationships for the future with TRATON AB.
  • Many employees began their TRATON AB career with their degree project.
