HID Global is seeking a Senior/Staff Firmware Engineer in Eden Prairie, MN, to contribute to the research, development, and maintenance of platform software solutions, including printer drivers and SDKs. Responsibilities

  • Analyze and evaluate platform software solutions requirements, collaborating with colleagues and customers to define product requirements.
  • Assist in product design and architecture development.
  • Design, develop, and maintain platform software solutions to satisfy documented requirements.
  • Facilitate and assist in the task estimation process.
  • Work and communicate in a cross-functional team environment (firmware, electrical, mechanical, QA, product management, customer support).
  • Investigate and analyze reported defects to resolve them in a timely manner.
  • Proactively provide status, raise issues, and communicate necessary information to team members.
  • Prepare, present, and participate in technical discussions and code reviews.
  • Contribute to the development of processes to improve efficiency and quality of development projects.
  • Assist in formulating standards and development practices.
  • Work with all departments to continuously improve product, process, workflow, and customer experience.
  • Make recommendations and assist in the implementation of new processes and tools.
  • Consult with other engineers to evaluate interfaces between platform software solutions, embedded solutions, and hardware, and operational & performance requirements of the overall system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • 4+ years of related software engineering experience (Senior: 4-7 years, Staff: 7+ years with technical ownership/mentoring).
  • Experience with platform software solutions development using object-oriented programming languages such as C, C++, or C#.
  • Working knowledge of source code management and configuration (Git).
  • Strong understanding of development processes, principles, and objectives.
  • Experience in development through the entire life-cycle including design, architecture, and implementation.
  • Proven analytical, planning, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in the English language verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical journals, specifications, international technical standards, etc.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Familiar with operating systems, such as Windows, etc.
  • Utilizes active listening skills during customer (internal and external) interactions.
  • Follows through in a timely manner on expectations which have been agreed upon and set.
  • Applies experience to anticipate customer needs and desires and influence world-class solutions.
  • Uncompromising when it comes to developing and providing quality solutions.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies.

Desired Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Windows API, DevExpress, and XML is a plus
  • Linux experience is a definite plus
  • Working with USB and/or Ethernet devices beneficial
  • Jenkins familiarity is a plus
  • Experience with implementation of security protocols and secure implementation of cryptographic techniques, and the documentation of the security aspects of system design and implementation is highly desired

  • Experience with working in a highly collaborative and dynamic multi-team environment

  • Knowledge of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) desired
