Microsoft is seeking a Security Engineering Intern to identify and exploit software, hardware, or human system vulnerabilities. This internship involves developing penetration testing strategies, discovering security bugs, and recommending security controls and mitigations. Interns will work on real-world projects in collaboration with global teams.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies security vulnerabilities within specialty/area or responsibility.
  • Able to come up to speed on new targets with the help of others.
  • Leverages known information channels to gain context.
  • Corroborates guidance against real world observations, determines and understands scope of potential impact and identifies variance or instances of known issues.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field
  • Must have at least one additional quarter/semester of school remaining following the completion of the internship
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
  • Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This role will require access to information that is controlled for export under export control regulations, potentially under the U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or Export Administration Regulations (EAR), the EU Dual Use Regulation, and/or other export control regulations. As a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be required to provide either proof of their country of citizenship or proof of their U.S. permanent residency or other protected status (e.g., under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3)) for assessment of eligibility to access the export-controlled information. To meet this legal requirement, and as a condition of employment, the successful candidate’s citizenship will be verified with a valid passport. Lawful permanent residents, refugees, and asylees may verify status using other documents, where applicable.

Desired Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field
  • CISSP, CISA, CISM, SANS, GCIA, GCIH, OSCP, and/or Security+ certification

Benefits

  • USD $5,690.00 - $11,210.00 per month (base pay range)
  • USD $7,410.00 - $12,250.00 per month (base pay range in SF Bay area and NYC metro area)
