Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a motivated Intern II to join their IT team, focusing on Data, Automation, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). This role offers hands-on experience with Python, SQL, Generative AI, and cloud technologies, providing valuable exposure to real-world business problems and professional mentorship.
Responsibilities
- Work with data using Python and SQL for preparation, analysis, transformation, and quality checks.
- Develop scripts, utilities, and automation solutions for repetitive processes.
- Learn and contribute to data pipelines and data engineering using technologies like Python, PySpark, Databricks, and cloud platforms.
- Explore and build Generative AI prototypes using LLMs, APIs, and prompt engineering.
- Experiment with AI-assisted solutions for information extraction, summarization, search, insights, and workflow automation.
- Assist in developing and integrating APIs and software components.
- Create reports, dashboards, or visualizations to communicate data insights.
- Perform testing, validation, debugging, and documentation of solutions.
- Collaborate with team members to understand business problems and translate them into technical solutions.
- Learn and follow software development practices including Git, Agile, CI/CD, data governance, and responsible AI.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Engineering, or a related field.
- Good programming fundamentals, preferably using Python.
- Basic understanding of SQL, databases, and working with data.
- Understanding of core programming concepts, data structures, debugging, and problem-solving.
- Interest in Data Engineering, Automation, AI, and Generative AI.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to learn new technologies and work collaboratively in a team environment.
Desired Qualifications
- Exposure through academic projects, internships, certifications, hackathons, or personal projects in areas such as Python libraries (pandas, PySpark), data platforms (Databricks), cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), Generative AI and LLMs (OpenAI APIs, LangChain, LangGraph), prompt engineering, embeddings, RAG, AI agents, REST APIs, visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau), or Git/GitHub and CI/CD concepts.
