Qualcomm is seeking a Staff Component Engineer in San Diego, CA. This role involves reviewing component datasheets, working with suppliers to find and develop component solutions, and validating components for AI Inference Data Centers. The position requires a BSEE with at least 2 years of experience in Component, Validation, or Reliability Engineering.

Responsibilities

Operate as a member of the CHS Component Engineering team.
Review third party component datasheets for accuracy.
Work with suppliers to find component solutions and develop custom component solutions.
Work with internal systems teams and test engineering to validate 3rd party components.
Respond to AI Inference Data Center component requirements.
Obtain and Review AI Inference Data Center component datasheets for accuracy, completeness and best in class alignment with Qualcomm Platform Requirements.
Develop and implement a Component Validation Plan.
Work with Taiwan AI Inference DC ODMs and AI Inference DC Design Teams.
Interact with Component Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, CAD Engineers, PdMs, PgMs, OEMs, Sourcing, Manufacturing, Planning, Support Engineering.
Work with hardware designers to comprehend new product needs, perform industry component searches and create mini specifications based on unique requirements.
Evaluate, iterate and integrate new products into platform designs with the design team and suppliers.
Quickly assimilate into existing projects and support fast-moving design schedules.
Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, ability to communicate clearly, organize effectively and work with cross functional teams across multiple engineering disciplines.
Utilize strong multi-discipline engineering, technical, and analytical skills.
Understand Electrical Engineering concepts and solutions.

Requirements

BSEE with Electrical or Component Engineering experience.
2+ years Component, Validation, or Reliability Engineering.
Familiar with HSSIO Components (PCIe, USB4, UFS5, DDR).
Familiar with Component Validation.
Familiar with Camera Modules and/or Image Sensors.
Proficient with all MS Office 365 Tools.
Familiar with using AI Chatbots and AI Agents to efficiently solve problems.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field and 4+ years of Hardware Engineering or related work experience.
Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field and 3+ years of Hardware Engineering or related work experience.
PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field and 2+ years of Hardware Engineering or related work experience.

Desired Qualifications

4+ years Component, Validation, or Reliability Engineering.
Design of HSSIO IC interfaces or HSSIO PCB.
Optics experience for Data Center Photonics.
