The AS/400 Operations Specialist will be responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and supporting IBM i (AS/400, iSeries) system environments, ensuring high availability, performance, and security. Key duties include managing system backups, batch job processing, system messages, and providing basic troubleshooting, collaborating with system administrators and application development teams.

Ansvarsområden

  • Monitor system consoles, active jobs, subsystem status, and system queues.
  • Respond promptly to system messages, alerts, and inquiry messages.
  • Manage and monitor CPU utilization, disk storage space, and memory allocation.
  • Monitor, execute, and troubleshoot daily, weekly, and monthly batch processing runs.
  • Manage job schedulers and restart failed jobs.
  • Perform regular system backups and manage tape libraries.
  • Assist in Disaster Recovery (DR) drills and restore operations.
  • Manage user profiles, passwords, and object-level authorities.
  • Monitor system audits and security logs.
  • Assist with the application of PTFs and OS upgrades.
  • Monitor replication environments and High Availability (HA) software.
  • Provide Level 1/Level 2 technical support for printer writer issues, connectivity, and terminal sessions.

Krav

  • Strong command of IBM i (OS/400, iSeries) operating system and CL (Command Language) commands.
  • Hands-on experience with BRMS (Backup, Recovery, and Media Services) and tape media management.
  • Experience with scheduling and monitoring tools (e.g., HelpSystems Robot Suite: Robot Schedule, Robot Console).
  • Basic understanding or experience with HA replication software (MIMIX, Maxava, etc.).
  • Familiarity with TCP/IP configuration on IBM i, Telnet, FTP/SFTP, and NetServer.
  • Ability to analyze job logs, spool files, and system messages to diagnose issues quickly.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in rotating shifts or provide on-call support for 24/7/365 environments.

Önskade kvalifikationer

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience in AS/400 (IBM i) operations or system administration.
  • IBM Certified Associate/Professional System Operator - System i (a plus, but not mandatory).
