Thesis Work for Design for circularity – Reversible adhesives

Tillverkning och produktion · Produktion och montering · Produktionsteknik

I korthet

This thesis work focuses on designing reversible adhesives to enable circularity in industrial products, specifically for de-bonding permanent magnets. The research involves evaluating adhesive formulations and assessing their de-bonding performance for improved material recovery and end-of-life disassembly.

Ansvarsområden

  • Part of the Materials Technology & Electromagnetics team at ABB Corporate Research in Västerås, Sweden.
  • Develop, design, build, and test new concepts and prototypes related to physical and digital powertrains or electrical devices.
  • Focus on reversible adhesives to enable sufficient temperature class but still de-bondable at the end of product service life.
  • Evaluate adhesive formulations based on chemical, thermal, and adhesive properties.
  • Assess de-bonding performance on selected disassembly process(es).

Krav

  • Academic level of Master of Science.
  • Background in Material design, Chemical Engineering, Polymer chemistry, Organic chemistry or Bio-chemistry.
  • Work independently under supervision to reach agreed targets.
  • Motivation to solve industrial problems using state-of-the-art methods.
  • Experience of polymeric formulation design and experimental work with adhesives.
  • Communication skills in oral and written English.
