As a student, you can complete your thesis project at Vattenfall, developing a data fusion approach to create high-resolution bathymetric maps by combining satellite, drone, and sonar data using machine learning. Ansvarsområden

Develop a data fusion approach combining satellite imagery, drone imagery/photogrammetry, and ROV sonar measurements.
Produce accurate, high-resolution bathymetric maps for areas subjected to water regulation for hydropower.
Investigate machine learning/deep learning methods for aligning, calibrating, and merging heterogeneous data sources.
Develop a unified depth map using sparse ROV measurements for correction and validation.
Combine fused bathymetry with above-water elevation and terrain data for a full 3D reconstruction of the basin.
Estimate the water volume of the area using the 3D reconstruction.
Conduct a literature review on relevant surveying methods and data fusion techniques.
Acquire and collect satellite, drone, and ROV data.
Pre-process and co-register multi-source data to a common spatial and depth reference.
Perform elevation and terrain analysis.
Evaluate and validate the fused bathymetry model performance against ground-truth measurements through field campaigns.

Krav

Student about to complete academic studies.
Enrolled in an MSc programme in Geomatics, Remote Sensing, Computer Science, Applied Physics, Environmental or Civil Engineering, or a related field.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
Strong programming skills in Python.
Experience with data analysis and relevant tools such as NumPy, PyTorch, TensorFlow, GDAL, Rasterio, or GIS software.
Basic understanding of GIS principles and geospatial data formats (raster data, point clouds, coordinate systems).
Ability to work independently, structure and document work systematically, and communicate results effectively.

Önskade kvalifikationer

Swedish language skills are considered an advantage.
Knowledge of, or a strong interest in, remote sensing, image processing, machine learning, and deep learning.
Interest in applying satellite-based data to environmental analysis and biodiversity-related challenges.
Experience working with satellite imagery, drone data, or sonar/acoustic survey data is considered an advantage.
