Spotify is seeking a Staff Data Engineer in London to define and drive the long-term data engineering strategy for the Subscriptions User Understanding team. This role requires deep technical expertise in building and operating large-scale cloud-native data platforms and a strong understanding of modern data modeling and governance practices. You will partner with various teams to deliver durable data solutions and mentor senior engineers.

Ansvarsområden

  • Define and drive the long-term data engineering strategy for the Subscriptions User Understanding domain.
  • Design scalable batch and streaming data platforms.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Analytics, and Platform teams.
  • Lead architectural decisions and establish engineering best practices.
  • Design data models and platform architecture for sustainable growth.
  • Simplify complex systems and reduce technical debt.
  • Mentor senior engineers and foster a culture of knowledge sharing.

Krav

  • Extensive experience designing, building, and operating large-scale cloud-native data platforms.
  • Deep experience building reliable distributed data pipelines using technologies such as Scio, BigQuery, Dataflow, GCS, SQL, Python, or similar cloud-native tools.
  • Strong understanding of modern data modeling, metadata management, governance, and data quality practices.
  • Ability to balance immediate business needs with long-term architectural sustainability.
  • Ability to influence technical direction through strong communication, sound judgment, and collaboration.
  • Effective communication with engineers, product managers, data scientists, analysts, and senior leadership.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and helping technical teams grow.
