Microsoft Substrate is seeking a Principal Site Reliability Engineering Manager to lead a team responsible for building and operating foundational cloud platform services in highly regulated environments. This role requires strong software engineering fundamentals and a focus on reliability by design, leading teams in code maintenance, automation, and ensuring security and compliance. The ideal candidate will influence reliability strategy across organizational boundaries and develop senior engineers.

Ansvarsområden

  • Lead and develop a team of Site Reliability Engineers, fostering accountability, learning, and inclusion.
  • Own the operational health and reliability posture of Substrate services in regulated environments.
  • Drive SLOs, SLIs, and operational metrics to improve reliability, diagnosability, and customer experience.
  • Lead effective incident management and post-incident reviews for long-term resilience.
  • Actively participate in on-call rotations and lead incident response.
  • Own reliability, resilience, and disaster recovery, including DR exercises.
  • Drive engineering-led operational excellence through automation and AI-assisted techniques.
  • Partner with engineering and product teams to embed reliability, security, and compliance early in design.
  • Influence technical and operational strategy for cross-cutting reliability and compliance challenges.
  • Represent team's work clearly to leadership, articulating risks and trade-offs.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships with security, compliance, infrastructure, and operations teams.

Krav

  • Doctorate Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 5+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration OR Master's Degree AND 6+ years OR Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years OR equivalent experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check required.
  • U.S. citizenship verification required.
  • Ability to access Substrate’s GCCM, GCCH, and DoD environments.
  • Favorable T3 background check (for GCCH/DoD) and CJIS (for GCCM) required or ability to obtain.

  • Doctorate Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 8+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration OR Master's Degree AND 12+ years OR Bachelor's Degree AND 15+ years OR equivalent experience.
  • 9+ years technical experience working with large-scale cloud or distributed systems.
  • 5+ years people management experience.
  • Experience operating or supporting services in regulated, sovereign, or compliance-sensitive environments.

Förmåner

  • Typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $165,600 - $296,400 per year.
  • Base pay range in San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area is USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year.
  • Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
