I korthet
Master's thesis project focusing on enabling interoperability between autonomous vehicles from different manufacturers in mining environments. The project involves developing a simulation platform to evaluate architectural principles for collaboration, with potential research questions around productivity, traffic management, and simulation modelling.
Ansvarsområden
- Conduct a literature review on interoperability, system-of-systems, autonomous mining transport, mixed traffic, agent-based simulation, and traffic management.
- Become familiar with the CAVE project's goals, architecture, and related research.
- Model Autonomous Operation Zones (AOZs) with various actors, rules, and points of interest.
- Develop an agent-based simulation model in Python (preferably Mesa, or SimPy, SUMO, AnyLogic).
- Implement different coordination and collaboration strategies.
- Define and run scenarios for vehicles from different suppliers interacting at intersections, loading/unloading points, and handling conflicts.
- Analyze results on productivity, waiting times, resource utilization, robustness, and sensitivity to delays or information quality.
- Document the simulation model, assumptions, scenarios, parameters, and results.
- Summarize conclusions on how simulation can validate architectural principles, identify requirements, and support future standardization.
Krav
- Student enrolled in a Master of Science in Engineering or equivalent program (e.g., computer science, automation, mechatronics, engineering physics, systems engineering).
- Good programming skills, preferably in Python.
- Ability to work independently, structure complex problems, and clearly document assumptions and results.
- Good ability to communicate in spoken and written English.
Önskade kvalifikationer
- Interest in autonomous systems, simulation, traffic management, logistics, or digitalization of industrial systems.
- Experience of, or interest in, simulation frameworks such as Mesa, SimPy, AnyLogic, or similar.
- Understanding of modeling, system architecture, optimization, agent-based models, or discrete-event simulation.
- Interest in mining operations, autonomous transport, system-of-systems, and interoperability is particularly meritorious.
- Swedish language skills are meritorious but not required.
Förmåner
- Thesis scope and setup can be adapted to university requirements and student's study program.
- Can be carried out by one or two students.
- Close collaboration with RISE Research Institutes of Sweden and project partners.
- Hybrid work format with regular digital check-ins and optional physical meetings.
- Compensation according to RISE’s guidelines for master’s theses.
