This role involves coordinating Design to Cost studies, leading cost-saving initiatives, and collaborating with engineering, procurement, and project management teams.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate Design to Cost studies to meet agreed objectives.
- Ensure transformation of identified cost-saving opportunities into validated reductions.
- Serve as the “voice” of Design to Cost within tender or project teams.
- Apply Design to Cost tools and methodologies to identify and implement cost-saving measures.
- Calculate and regularly update the “Cost by Unit in Development” at train and subsystem levels.
- Define and agree on recurring cost targets with project stakeholders.
- Organize and lead creative brainstorming sessions to identify and validate savings.
- Establish and monitor Design to Cost KPIs and deliverables.
- Ensure alignment with product definitions and foster effective communication among stakeholders.
- Provide regular updates to project teams on cost stakes and action plans.
Requirements
- Degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- 5 to 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering.
- Knowledge of procurement and/or sourcing (an asset).
- Experience within the transportation industry (railway, automotive, or heavy equipment).
- Fluency in English and French.
- Strong technical leadership with an autonomous and proactive mindset.
- Ability to analyze complex data and provide actionable insights.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of procurement and/or sourcing (an asset).
- Knowledge of a third language is considered an asset when working with our international partners, suppliers, colleagues, and customers.
