Qualcomm Technologies is seeking a Staff Modem Technologies Software Engineer in Santa Clara, California. This role involves designing, implementing, and validating wireless modem air interface technologies, including modem access stratum and RF SW design, optimizations, and algorithms. The engineer will work on multi-RAT technologies from industry specifications like 3GPP, LTE, and 5G NR, ensuring high performance and cost-effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and plan complex design and implementation tasks for Wireless WAN modem air interface RAN technologies.
  • Synthesize ambiguous or conflicting requirements into actionable designs.
  • Design, implement, verify, validate, and commercialize modem access stratum and RF SW design, optimizations & algorithms.
  • Work with the RFFE team to define and guide modem IP architecture, RFFE design, HW APIs, core systems algorithms, and HW/SW/co-processor architecture.
  • Implement transceiver, HW control, and wireless Radio Access Stratum software for multi-RAT technologies (3GPP, LTE, 5G NR).
  • Implement shared resources of a multi-RAT modem based on WWAN L1/L2/L3 specifications.
  • Collaborate with other functional groups to develop cost-effective, high-quality modem IP meeting industry and customer requirements for performance (throughput, latency, power consumption) and cost (silicon area, calibration complexity, code size).
  • Act as a strong contributor in design reviews and project meetings.
  • Communicate and implement a development plan.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree (or foreign academic equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related degree field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in a related occupation.
  • Experience in WWAN L1/L2/L3 specifications.
  • Ability to efficiently implement shared resources of a multi-RAT modem.
  • Familiarity with industry specifications, notably 3GPP with LTE and 5G NR.
  • Experience in modem access stratum and RF SW design, optimizations & algorithms.
  • Experience guiding modem IP architecture, RFFE design, HW APIs, core systems algorithms, and HW/SW/co-processor architecture.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working on the transceiver, and HW control and wireless Radio Access Stratum software implementation of a multi-RAT (Radio Access Technology).
