Microsoft is seeking a Software Engineer to join its Core AI team, focusing on building foundational platforms for Generative AI and agentic applications. This hybrid role involves designing, developing, and operating large-scale distributed systems, with opportunities to work on cutting-edge AI research and shape the future of software development.

Responsibilities

Creates and implements code for products, services, or features, reusing code as applicable.
Provides feedback for architecture proposals under technical leadership.
Tests and explores design options for product/solution features, outlining strengths and weaknesses.
Collaborates with architects to build and modify product/solution features, providing feedback.
Contributes to the development of design documents supporting user stories and product requirements.
Refines product features by escalating findings from analyses to inform engineering decisions.
Builds foundational capabilities by contributing to and leading the development of core platform components and reusable building blocks.
Champions customer-centric development by engaging with customers and product teams to capture feedback and refine messaging.
Leads live site excellence by driving operational excellence in managing large-scale distributed systems and leading root cause analyses for incidents.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
3+ years of experience designing, building, and operating production-grade software and services at scale, with a proven track record of delivering high-impact solutions.

Desired Qualifications

Demonstrated expertise in solving complex technical challenges in one or more domains such as distributed systems, AI/ML infrastructure, developer platforms, or cloud services.
Experience engaging with customers during integration or deployment phases, with a focus on delivering value and incorporating feedback into product evolution.
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
Required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
