Amazon Worldwide Returns and ReCommerce (WWR&R) is seeking an experienced Software Development Engineer III (SDE III) to design, develop, and support massively scalable, distributed real-time systems using C++ and Java. This role involves leading architectural direction, mentoring other engineers, and driving engineering best practices to support the team's mission of 'making zero happen' for returns and product waste.

Responsibilities

Lead the end-to-end design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance of software systems.
Own the team's architectural direction by evaluating trade-offs and guiding future technology choices.
Collaborate with engineers on related teams to define interfaces and resolve cross-team dependencies.
Drive adoption of engineering best practices, including code quality, operational excellence, and use of AI tools.
Mentor and coach other engineers, providing technical guidance and career development support.

Requirements

5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language.
5+ years of leading design or architecture of new and existing systems.
Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team.
Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
Experience with C++, Java, object-oriented design patterns, distributed databases, and innovative storage techniques.

Desired Qualifications

5+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
