Saab Australia is seeking an experienced Safety Engineer to lead system safety activities for Land Capability projects, ensuring compliance with Defence, Saab, and legislative safety requirements. This role involves managing safety risks, conducting hazard analysis, developing safety cases, and defining safety controls throughout the capability lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain system safety plans, processes, frameworks and workflows.
- Examine system safety requirements and assist in development, design and integration activities ensuring compliance with contractual, regulatory and technical requirements.
- Lead functional and physical hazard analysis, including Preliminary Hazard Lists, Preliminary Hazard Analyses and System Hazard Analyses.
- Conduct safety assessments for design changes, engineering changes and System Problem Reports (SPRs).
- Develop and maintain Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Cases to support system acceptance and operation.
- Define, manage and maintain safety requirements, mitigating controls, verification and traceability.
- Participate in system safety working groups and provide clear reporting on safety risks and issues.
- Support broader Systems Engineering activities across the development and in-service support lifecycle.
- Work with engineering and project teams to ensure safety risks are effectively identified, mitigated and managed.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience across the systems engineering lifecycle, with strong capability in system safety.
- Experience developing and managing hazard analyses, safety assessments and safety cases.
- Ability to apply systems engineering and safety principles to complex Defence capabilities.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills.
- The ability to work collaboratively with engineering teams, project management and Defence customers.
- Australian Defence Security Clearance – NV1 is required.
- Ability to access and work with ITAR-controlled information.
