Responsibilities
- Monitor and interpret regulatory requirements for Shopping Centre operations (safety, security, tenants, car park, labor, data privacy, ethics, environment, licensing).
- Ensure consistent implementation of Risk & Compliance methods, SOPs, and governance routines.
- Coordinate with leaders, partners, and stakeholders to track, evidence, renew, and complete required licenses, permits, and corrective actions on time.
- Support the Shopping Centre during authority inspections and regulatory reviews, ensuring findings are documented and action plans are followed through.
- Lead internal checks (Sec Check, iConduct) to validate compliance with IKANO Rules and local regulations.
- Analyze incidents and findings to identify root causes, control gaps, and necessary improvements.
- Guide leaders and co-workers in risk workshops, enterprise risk management, and operational risk identification.
- Compile and report on regulatory compliance updates, inspection outcomes, incident trends, and action plan status.
- Prepare and deliver training materials on regulatory obligations, SOPs, safety, security, and compliance.
- Escalate overdue, recurring, or high-risk compliance issues with clear evidence and recommendations.
- Lead, guide, and develop the Safety Executive for consistent execution of safety operations and compliance.
- Manage outsourced security service providers, including performance monitoring and audits.
- Oversee safety, security, emergency preparedness, and crisis management operations.
- Oversee the effectiveness of security systems (CCTV, FCC, access control).
- Coordinate insurance claims, safety incidents, security incidents, and liability cases.
- Serve as the Fire Safety Manager in accordance with the Fire Services Act 1988 (Malaysia).
- Ensure consistent implementation of Risk & Compliance priorities in line with Ikano Retail direction and business priorities.
- Ensure the quality and effectiveness of internal checks, regulatory follow-ups, and control improvement actions.
- Provide timely and reliable Shopping Centre risk insight through reporting and dashboards.
- Ensure capability and consistency of Shopping Centre teams in applying working methods, controls, and compliance requirements.
- Ensure timely escalation of overdue, recurring, or high-risk issues to management.
- Ensure effective delivery of safety and security operations, emergency preparedness, and incident management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in occupational health/safety, Environmental Engineering or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in a similar or compliance role in retail or related industries.
- Minimum 3+ years in a managerial level.
- Experience with incident reporting and claims handling process with insurance company.
- Experience in managing FCC and security guards.
- Experience dealing with fire drills, system testing, and crisis management, investigating fraud and unethical behaviours.
- Experience in setting and implementing long-term strategic plans, setting budgets, and following up goals.
