As a Rack Lifecycle Tech with AWS Infrastructure Services in Mumbai, you will be responsible for the hands-on execution of rack installation, cabling, and decommissioning in data centers. This role requires strong technical skills in hardware troubleshooting and networking, adherence to safety protocols, and meticulous documentation to ensure the reliable operation of AWS cloud infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Execute rack installations including physical placement, power connections, grounding, and cable management.
- Perform structured cabling including fiber/copper terminations, patch panel connections, labeling, and dressing.
- Complete OTDR and power testing, validating results against acceptance thresholds.
- Execute work orders and tasks assigned by the Rack Lifecycle Team Manager.
- Perform quality checks on completed cabling work and update CMDB/DCIM records.
- Receive, verify, and stage incoming rack, cable, optics, and hardware deliveries.
- Maintain accurate site inventory records for cables, optics, patch cords, and consumables.
- Execute physical decommission activities including cable removal, power disconnects, and asset de-tagging.
- Perform device wipe and media destruction in compliance with AWS Secure Media Destruction and EHS policies.
- Sort, label, and stage recovered assets for RMA, redeployment, or secure disposal.
- Adhere to all site-level SOPs, quality standards, and governance frameworks.
- Complete all required safety training and certifications.
- Support coordination with DCO, DCEO, Network Engineering, and facilities teams.
- Participate in daily stand-ups and pre-work briefings.
- Maintain and develop technical proficiency in structured cabling, fiber optics, and data center physical infrastructure.
- Proactively seek feedback from leads and managers to improve personal performance.
Requirements
- 2+ years of computer hardware troubleshooting and repair experience.
- 1+ years of computer networking experience.
- High school or equivalent diploma.
- Ability to execute structured cabling including fiber/copper terminations, patch panel connections, labeling, and dressing to specification.
- Proficiency in completing OTDR and power testing and validating results.
- Adherence to all EHS protocols, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and safe work practices.
- Experience executing work orders and tasks assigned by management.
- Ability to perform quality checks on completed cabling work.
- Skill in identifying and escalating issues, blockers, or deviations from SOPs.
- Experience receiving, verifying, and staging incoming deliveries.
- Ability to maintain accurate site inventory records.
- Experience executing physical decommission activities per assigned MOPs.
- Familiarity with device wipe and media destruction procedures.
- Skill in sorting, labeling, and staging recovered assets.
- Ability to update DCIM/CMDB and IPAM records accurately.
- Adherence to all site-level SOPs, quality standards, and governance frameworks.
- Completion of all required safety training and certifications.
- Accurate use of Rack Lifecycle Team tooling (e.g., Boost, MARS, ALM/DCLM).
- Clear communication of task status, blockers, and schedule adherence.
- Ability to support coordination with other teams during deployment or decommission activities.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience dealing effectively with customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure.
- Familiarity with rack decommissioning including device wipe, media destruction, and asset recovery procedures.
- Experience maintaining and developing technical proficiency in structured cabling, fiber optics, rack installation, and data center physical infrastructure.
- Completion of required certifications and training modules including EHS, LOTO, and any Rack Lifecycle Team-specific technical programs.
- Ability to support the onboarding and training of new team members and share knowledge.
- Staying current on AWS infrastructure tooling, cabling standards, and process updates.
