Mojang Studios, creators of Minecraft, seeks a Principal Software Engineer to lead technical strategy and architecture for their mobile app experience. This hands-on role involves defining the technical vision, leading design and implementation, and mentoring engineers to ensure a secure, reliable, and high-quality experience for millions of players.

Responsibilities

  • Define and communicate the technical vision, architecture, and engineering roadmap for Minecraft Studio’s mobile apps.
  • Lead the design and implementation of foundational application systems, development patterns, and customer-facing features while remaining a hands-on contributor to the codebase.
  • Partner with product, design, and cloud service teams to turn customer needs into coherent end-to-end experiences and durable client-service contracts.
  • Raise the engineering bar through technical mentorship, design and code reviews, thoughtful experimentation, and clear standards for quality, security, privacy, accessibility, performance, and maintainability.
  • Guide the app from early exploration through launch and live operation, using telemetry, customer signals, and operational learning to improve the product and its technical foundations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • Expertise in iOS development and experience shipping consumer mobile applications.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years people management experience.
