Microsoft seeks a Principal Product Manager to define and drive the strategy, roadmap, and execution for software engineering tools and systems within the Intelligent Conversation and Communications Cloud (IC3) platform. This hybrid role, based in Redmond, WA, focuses on enhancing developer productivity, accelerating software delivery, and ensuring deployment safety for millions of users powering Microsoft Teams and Azure Communication Services.

Responsibilities

  • Define and evangelize a multi-year strategy and vision for IC3's software engineering tools and engineering systems.
  • Identify high-impact investments to improve developer productivity, engineering efficiency, and deployment safety.
  • Own and maintain the product roadmap, including scope, milestones, dependencies, and rollout plans.
  • Drive execution from concept to launch readiness across multiple engineering teams, managing risk and ensuring predictable outcomes.
  • Partner with engineering leaders on technical design and trade-offs for build, test, CI/CD, release, and deployment systems.
  • Champion improvements for safe deployments, including progressive rollouts, automated quality gates, and feature flighting.
  • Define metrics for developer productivity, cycle time, build/test reliability, and deployment success.
  • Gather feedback from engineering customers to translate into tooling and process improvements.
  • Influence without authority across organizational boundaries to drive alignment among stakeholders.
  • Provide technical product leadership and mentorship, raising the bar for product/program management discipline.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development, OR equivalent experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
  • Pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 12+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development, OR equivalent experience.
  • Software engineering background with hands-on experience building, shipping, and/or operating software.
  • Demonstrated practical understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) including source control, build, test, CI/CD, release, and deployment.
  • Experience driving the strategy, roadmap, and execution of technical products or programs across multiple engineering teams.
  • Hands-on experience building or managing developer tools and engineering systems at scale (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub).
  • Experience defining and improving developer productivity through metrics and DevEx practices.
  • Familiarity with safe deployment practices (progressive rollouts, feature flags, quality gates, rollback strategies).
  • Experience with large-scale cloud, distributed systems, or real-time communications platforms.
  • Experience influencing and aligning cross-functional stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Experience driving org-wide or cross-team engineering-systems initiatives.
  • Track record of technical leadership and mentoring.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • 4+ years experience taking a product, feature, or experience to market.
  • 6+ years experience improving product metrics for a product, feature, or experience.
  • 6+ years experience disrupting a market for a product, feature, or experience.

Benefits

  • The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $142,800 - $274,800 per year.
  • Base pay range in San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
  • Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
