MSc thesis. Future batteries for electric trucks: Na-ion NVPF and NFPP

Manufacturing & Production · Production & Assembly · Manufacturing Engineering

In short

MSc thesis project focusing on a techno-economic assessment of future Na-ion NVPF and NFPP battery technologies for electric trucks. The project involves identifying developments, deriving cell and pack concepts, assessing battery degradation, and estimating production costs at a large scale.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct a techno-economic assessment of future Na-ion NVPF and NFPP battery technology for electric trucks.
  • Identify and assess expected developments in NVPF and NFPP relevant for future electric trucks, based on scientific literature and publicly available data.
  • Derive representative future NVPF and NFPP cell concepts and matching battery pack concepts.
  • Assess battery degradation during representative electric truck operation using a simplified semi-empirical aging model.
  • Estimate the costs for raw-material, cell-production and pack-production at multiple-GWh/year scale.

Requirements

  • M.Sc. studies in (Electro)chemistry, physics, electrical engineering, or energy engineering.
  • Relevant courses on battery technology.
  • Skilled supervision and a license for ChatGPT Enterprise will be available.
  • Two office-days per week.
  • The position is for one student.

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous work on battery degradation and/or cost is a bonus.

Benefits

  • Payment before taxes: 20'000 SEK at the start, 20'000 SEK after the final report was approved by Scania.
  • Travel expenses: 1 to 2 roundtrips between study location and Södertälje.
