Construction, Engineering & Trades · Civil & Industrial Engineering · Mechanical Engineering · Electrical Engineering · Robotics & Automation
In short
This master's thesis focuses on identifying the root causes of driveline torsional vibrations using numerical simulation and AI. It is ideal for engineering students interested in data science, AI, and mechanical systems, offering hands-on experience with advanced simulation and machine learning techniques in an industrial context.
Responsibilities
- Generate training data using a validated driveline dynamic model by varying physical parameters and operating conditions.
- Develop AI/ML models to identify the most likely root cause of observed vibration behavior.
- Validate the methodology to demonstrate how physics-based driveline simulation can generate training data for AI-assisted identification.
- Combine engineering understanding, numerical simulation, and modern AI techniques.
Requirements
- Engineering student in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science or equivalent.
- Strong interest in Data Science/AI with a strong interest in mechanical systems, software coding and virtual simulation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Interest in vehicle/driveline dynamics and Noise & Vibration.
- Basic knowledge of numerical modelling.
- Programming experience in Python and/or MATLAB.
- Interest in machine learning and data-driven engineering.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with 1D simulation, vibration analysis, signal processing, CAE or machine learning is an advantage.
Benefits
- Opportunity to work at the intersection of Automotive Engineering, Noise & Vibration, Numerical Simulation, and AI.
- Understand both the physical engineering problem and the AI methods used to solve it.
- Potential for further development toward AI-assisted NVH diagnostics and simulation-driven engineering applications.
- Practical and industrially relevant problem.
