Global Product Sustainability Lead

Responsibilities

  • Lead sustainable product and packaging design strategies and adoption.
  • Integrate regulatory considerations into sustainable product design guidelines.
  • Execute improvement projects with engineering teams.
  • Enhance Emerson’s sustainable new product and packaging design guidelines.
  • Identify and prioritize cross-business strategic design initiatives for material sustainability impact.
  • Participate in external expert industry forums on sustainable product and packaging design.
  • Oversee the product carbon footprint analysis team.
  • Provide technical expertise to business-unit teams on product carbon footprint projects.
  • Lead and expand Emerson's global product carbon footprint program, improving methodologies and streamlining processes.
  • Develop a long-term data architecture plan for the product carbon footprint program.
  • Support vendor selection for the product carbon footprint program.
  • Drive adoption of product carbon footprint analyses across major product lines globally.
  • Build relationships with external experts and partners.
  • Collaborate with the Scope 3 team to improve data quality using PCF insights.
  • Train sales and marketing teams on communicating sustainability results.
  • Assess and benchmark data maturity of business units for PCF calculations.
  • Define roadmaps to improve data readiness and enable scalable deployment.
  • Act as liaison to the enterprise product data program, ensuring alignment.
  • Translate PCF requirements into clear data specifications and ensure integration into product data architecture.
  • Monitor and assess Product Category Rules (PCRs) and external standards.
  • Collaborate with the Responsible Sourcing team to improve primary data collection for Scope 3 emissions.
  • Assist in developing decarbonization scenario analyses and roadmaps for key direct material commodities.
  • Engage with supply chain teams to promote sustainable procurement and transportation strategies.

Requirements

  • Education in engineering, environmental science, physics, mathematics, materials science, or a similar subject.
  • 5-7 years of work experience in product design or product management.
  • Experience in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Experience with Life Cycle Assessment / Product Carbon Footprint methodologies and tools.
  • Proven track record in the design and development of new products.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex sustainability topics clearly.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future.
