Equipment Sourcing & Procurement Manager, Skidding & Modularization

Logistics, Sales & Operations · Supply Chain & Transport · Procurement · Logistics Management

In short

Microsoft is seeking an Equipment Sourcing & Procurement Manager to develop and execute sourcing strategies for modular and skidded data center infrastructure systems. This role focuses on ensuring supply continuity, cost optimization, and risk mitigation for electrical and mechanical equipment across the Americas.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and own procurement strategies for skidded and modular equipment categories, including switchgear skids, generator sets, UPS modules, power distribution assemblies, chiller skids, and prefabricated mechanical and electrical (E&M) packages.
  • Conduct project assessments, regional segmentation, and cost modeling to identify optimization opportunities across modularization scope and factory build cycles.
  • Lead RFx processes (RFI/RFP/RFQ) from requirements gathering through supplier selection and contract execution, with specific focus on skid fabricators, module integrators, and specialty assembly vendors.
  • Drive total cost of ownership (TCO) analysis, benchmarking modular build approaches versus stick-built alternatives, and develop long-term sourcing roadmaps in partnership with Category teams.
  • Establish and manage relationships with skid fabricators, modular integrators, and OEM equipment suppliers, ensuring quality, factory capacity, delivery performance, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct weekly supplier reviews (WSRs), factory readiness assessments, risk reviews, and corrective action plans tied to program milestones.
  • Partner with suppliers on New Product Introduction (NPI), factory scaling, and engineering alignment to support repeatable, standardized modular designs across regional programs.
  • Negotiate commercial terms specific to modular and skid fabrication scopes, including project specific requirements, factory acceptance testing (FAT) requirements, phased delivery schedules, and delivery provisions.
  • Enforce master purchasing agreements and service-level expectations aligned to program delivery timelines and construction milestones.
  • Mitigate supply chain and geopolitical risks through multi-sourcing, strategic inventory positioning, and long-term fabrication capacity agreements.
  • Work with Data Center Engineering and Modularization teams to translate technical and standardization requirements into procurement specifications and fabrication packages.
  • Coordinate with Construction & Planning teams to align skid and module delivery schedules with site readiness, crane picks, and installation milestones.
  • Partner with Cost & Finance on budgeting, forecasting, and cost tracking specific to modular scope and fabrication-driven cost structures.
  • Oversee purchase order execution, factory coordination, logistics planning with site-based procurement teams.
  • Identify and resolve supply disruptions, long-lead material constraints, and fabrication delays that impact program schedules.
  • Monitor global supply chain trends, including steel, copper, switchgear components, and freight, and adjust modular sourcing strategies to protect program delivery timelines.
