Join the Looker Control Plane team to architect the backbone of Looker’s global multi-cloud infrastructure. You will lead a team of software engineers, manage projects related to billing, GKE orchestration, and more, while partnering with product management and cross-functional stakeholders. This role requires deep expertise in software development and technical leadership, with a focus on building scalable and secure delivery platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Define the mid-to-long-term vision for the Looker Control Plane, identifying future challenges in multi-cloud orchestration and architecting a sustainable roadmap for global scalability.
  • Build, manage, and inspire a team of software engineers, guiding their career development, conducting performance reviews, and fostering a high-performing team culture.
  • Lead the resolution of open-ended problems such as designing next-generation billing, multi-region disaster recovery, and migrations between clouds.
  • Exhibit leadership across multiple groups, navigating competing priorities, influencing system designs beyond your direct team, and partnering with product to ensure cohesive execution.
  • Partner closely with product management and cross-functional stakeholders to translate the product vision into a technical roadmap, prioritizing deliverables and ensuring successful execution of complex projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, Go, or JavaScript).
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role overseeing projects, including 2 years of experience in people management, supervision, or team leadership.
  • Experience leading engineering teams working with container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes) and cloud platforms (e.g., Google Cloud Platform).

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • Experience with building, scaling, and maintaining distributed systems and multi-cloud infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with cross-functional stakeholders (like Product Management) to navigate high ambiguity and define long-term technical strategy.
