Volvo Truck & Bus is seeking motivated individuals for their Apprentice HGV Technician program starting in 2027. This full-time, on-site role offers comprehensive training, hands-on experience with cutting-edge technology, and a clear career path in heavy vehicle engineering. The apprenticeship duration is 32 months with potential start dates in May and August 2027.
Responsibilities
- Assist with repairs according to Volvo Standard Times and using Volvo Special Tools.
- Participate in fault diagnosis processes.
- Learn and comply with warranty procedures.
- Collaborate with the parts team to ensure correct parts are fitted.
- Learn to use Volvo special tools safely and efficiently.
- Assist with workshop cleaning.
- Ensure company time recording procedures are followed and job cards are completed accurately.
- Report all vehicle defects to the workshop Supervisor.
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Attend college courses regularly and achieve the required standards.
- Attend any technical or development training made available.
Requirements
- Enthusiastic individuals with a strong interest in heavy vehicles.
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems and a desire to learn.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a keen eye for detail.
- Strong communication skills and a team player mentality.
- Desired qualifications: GCSE A* to C/Grade 4 in Math and English.
- Full equipment including tools will be provided.
- Work with qualified and experienced Technicians to learn repair, service, MOT, and maintenance of modern trucks, buses, and coaches including hybrid technology.
Desired Qualifications
- Training delivered in the workplace and on block release at Inspiro dedicated Heavy Vehicle Academy in Derby.
- 18 blocks over the 32-month program, split between virtual classes and days in Derby.
- Assigned a dedicated Development Coach for 1-2-1 support and guidance.
- Achieve IMI qualifications, including Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician Level 3.
- Apprenticeship Standard Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician - Bus, Coach and HGV.
