In short

Senior Applications Engineer role in Bengaluru, India, focusing on FPGA emulation and prototyping. Responsibilities include customer technical support, troubleshooting complex designs, and collaborating with R&D. Requires a Bachelor's or Master's in Electronics Engineering with relevant experience in FPGA design and RTL.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to global customers using Synopsys Zebu Emulation and Protocompiler Prototyping software, troubleshooting issues across partitioning, synthesis, place and route, and hardware debug.
  • Work directly with customers to migrate their designs to new software releases, ensuring compatibility and resolving any regressions or performance issues that surface.
  • Deploy new software features on live customer designs, helping them adopt capabilities like advanced partitioning algorithms, new debug modes, or updated FPGA target support.
  • Deliver technical training sessions to customers, ranging from basic tool usage to advanced workflows for multi-FPGA partitioning and hardware-software co-verification.
  • Collaborate with Synopsys HAV R&D teams to report customer issues, provide reproducible test cases, and advocate for product improvements based on real-world usage patterns.
  • Support pre-sales evaluations by running customer designs through the Synopsys emulation and prototyping flow, demonstrating performance and identifying potential adoption blockers.
  • Travel occasionally to customer sites for onsite support, training, or critical issue resolution.

Requirements

  • Bachelors in Electronics Engineering with 2-3 years of experience, or Master's in Electronics Engineering with 1-2 years, specifically in emulation or prototyping environments.
  • Hands-on experience with logic design and implementation using FPGAs, including synthesis, place and route, and timing closure.
  • Strong working knowledge of Verilog, System Verilog, or VHDL, including the ability to read, debug, and modify RTL written by others.
  • Practical experience with FPGA architecture and back-end implementation flows, including understanding of resource utilization, clock domain crossing, and design partitioning.
  • Exposure to Xilinx or Altera synthesis tools is a plus, as is familiarity with Synopsys Prototyping or Emulation hardware and software.
  • Experience with interface protocols like PCIe, AXI, UART, or I2C is a plus, particularly in the context of hardware-software integration.
  • Scripting experience in Python, Tcl, or shell is desirable for automating workflows and analyzing log files.

Desired Qualifications

  • You can take a vague customer complaint like 'the compile is failing' and turn it into a specific, reproducible issue with enough detail that R&D can act on it.
  • You stay calm when a customer is frustrated or under pressure, and you focus on solving the problem rather than defending the tool.
  • You are comfortable working across time zones and managing multiple customer issues in parallel without losing track of who needs what by when.
  • You do not mind digging through synthesis logs, waveform dumps, or FPGA utilization reports to find the root cause of a problem.
  • You can explain a complex technical tradeoff, like why a design needs to be repartitioned or why certain optimizations are not possible, in a way that makes sense to someone who is not an FPGA expert.
  • You are open to occasional travel for customer support, training, or onsite troubleshooting when remote support is not enough.

Benefits

  • Enable customers to bring up complex SoC designs on emulation and prototyping platforms faster, reducing their verification cycle time by weeks or months.
  • Improve product quality by surfacing real customer pain points to R&D with enough technical detail that fixes can be prioritized and implemented effectively.
  • Build customer confidence in Synopsys HAV solutions through responsive, expert-level support that helps them solve problems they could not solve on their own.
  • Expand adoption of new software features by showing customers how to use them on their actual designs, not just in demos.
  • Reduce escalations and support load over time by delivering training that helps customers become more self-sufficient with the toolchain.
  • Strengthen customer relationships by being the engineer they trust to pick up the phone when something is broken and production timelines are at risk.
  • Contribute to the technical knowledge base and internal best practices that make the entire support organization more effective.
  • Join Synopsys Technical Sales Group (TSG) as part of the Hardware Assisted Verification (HAV) team, working alongside expert-level field engineers.
  • Collaborate with engineers across geographies and gain exposure to Synopsys HAV hardware platforms as part of your technical development.
  • Synopsys considers all applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, military veteran status, or disability.
