Ericsson is seeking a System Engineer specializing in Radio Security for a hybrid role in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The position involves leading security studies, technical investigations, and analyzing security requirements for radio software and RAN components. A solid background in radio/RAN systems, security fundamentals, and system engineering is required, with experience in agile methodologies and CI/CD being beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Driving radio security studies to develop robust security features for customers.
  • Leading technical investigations on security topics, proposing mitigations, and driving decisions with impacted design teams.
  • Systemizing security functionality for radio software, in alignment with System Area charters for Radio and Security.
  • Analyzing and breaking down security requirements into implementable system requirements and design constraints for radio units and RAN components.
  • Supporting Architects, OPOs, drivers, and development teams with expert guidance in secure implementation.
  • Driving continuous improvement in product security in-line with latest developments in the security area.
  • Participating in relevant forums and communities (System Area groups, Security Chapters, seminars) and sharing learnings, best practices, and guidance across the Radio organization.

Requirements

  • Solid background in radio/RAN systems, embedded systems, or telecom HW/SW, with experience from at least one of: radio HW, radio SW, RAN compute.
  • Strong understanding of security fundamentals, including Cryptographic primitives (hashing, symmetric / asymmetric crypto, digital signatures) and secure boot and trusted execution concepts.
  • Experience in system engineering / systemization: Requirements analysis and decomposition, Defining system behaviors, interfaces, and constraints, Writing clear, structured technical documentation.
  • Ability to lead technical discussions and drive decisions across multi-disciplinary teams (HW, SW, ASIC, manufacturing, security governance).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a structured way of working and good attention to detail.
  • Understanding of agile way of working, CI/CD setup for product development.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both spoken and written.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with 5G RAN and Ericsson Radio System products (radios, AAS, RAN compute, transport, or Cloud RAN).
  • Hands-on experience with Secure boot / secure storage / secure debug implementations.
  • Familiarity with BNEW security frameworks, Baseline Security Requirements (BSR), and Radio Security Requirements in DOORS NG.
  • Experience collaborating with Security Masters, Security Champions, or Product Security organizations.
  • Curious, self-driven, and eager to learn in the evolving radio security domain.
  • Comfortable working in a distributed, cross-functional environment and building strong networks across units.
  • Able to balance security, performance, cost, and time-to-market in technical trade-offs.
  • Pragmatic and solution-oriented, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.

  • The salary offered is dependent on various factors including, but not limited to, location, and the candidate’s combination of job-related knowledge, qualifications, skills, education, training, and experience.
  • The salary range for this position is $129,500 - $170,100.
  • Your pay also includes the opportunity for an annual bonus.
