The L3 MongoDB Engineer is responsible for the architecture, administration, performance optimization, security, and high availability of enterprise MongoDB environments. This role provides Level-3 support for critical production incidents, ensures database reliability and scalability, implements automation, and drives continuous improvements across MongoDB platforms hosted on-premises and in cloud environments.

Responsibilities

Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain MongoDB databases.
Manage standalone, replica set, and sharded cluster deployments.
Perform database provisioning and environment setup.
Monitor database health and availability.
Analyze database performance bottlenecks and optimize indexes, queries, collections, and configurations.
Tune memory, storage, and cache utilization.
Design and maintain MongoDB Replica Sets and implement sharding for scalability.
Configure automatic failover mechanisms and develop backup and recovery strategies.
Serve as the highest escalation point for MongoDB-related incidents and troubleshoot production outages.
Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for recurring problems.
Implement authentication and authorization using RBAC, and configure TLS/SSL encryption.
Perform vulnerability remediation and security patching.
Implement backup solutions using MongoDB Cloud Backup, Ops Manager Backup, Snapshots, and native Mongodump/Mongorestore.
Monitor database health, replica set synchronization, query performance, disk/memory utilization, and replication lag.
Forecast growth and perform capacity planning.
Support MongoDB deployments on MongoDB Atlas, AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Automate database administration tasks and develop scripts using Python, Shell Scripting, and PowerShell.
Integrate MongoDB deployment activities with CI/CD pipelines and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, Ansible, and CloudFormation.
Develop and maintain SOPs, Runbooks, Architecture diagrams, Recovery procedures, and Troubleshooting guides.
Provide technical guidance to L1 and L2 teams.
