Job Purpose:

If you driven to make a difference with your data management & quality skills and can understand complex systems and processes and develop sustainable solutions while engaging data users, the Sr.  Data Management & Quality Specialist role is for you! Caterpillar’s Global Finance Organization is creating and implementing an enterprise data management & governance strategy to manage how we collect, store, use, and share trusted data throughout the organization. This position initiates, develops and facilitates data management for Master/transactional data or other systems data that require governance, standards and high data quality. This position will provide consultation to others that provide data to the system or those who consume data from the system and a change management component to drive new systems and encode new processes in the organization. The overall goal is to ensure the data quality meets the expectations needed for the business and that the data is governed and managed to meet brand, legal, information security & privacy, and document retention standards.

Job Description:

Collaborate with business partners, lead the data quality framework & implement the DQ engine to improve data quality within all finance systems for master, transactional and reference data. Expert at enterprise data management tools and techniques and drive MDM adoption. Create documentation for standards and processes and drive cultural change throughout the organization. Be an expert with data quality tools, as well as industry practices and have knowledge of how to incorporate advanced analytics into data quality and data management.

Job duties include but are not limited to the following:

• Lead and execute data quality strategy and framework to improve trust in data within all finance owned systems

• Partner with data strategy & governance leader to deploy the data governance framework, with a focus on the improvement of data quality and the protection of sensitive data through modifications to organization behavior policies and standards, principles, governance metrics, processes, related tools and data architecture in line with enterprise practices

• Manage data stewards through the business and engage them in governing of their respective data and ensure clear accountability for the stewardship of the company’s principal information assets

• Serve as a liaison between Business and Functional areas and technology to ensure that data-related business requirements for protecting sensitive data are clearly defined, communicated, understood, and considered as part of operational prioritization and planning

• Develop & maintain an inventory of the enterprise information maps, including authoritative

systems, owners

• Facilitate the development and implementation of data quality standards, data protection

standards and adoption requirements across the enterprise including metrics, remediation

processes, and guidelines

• Define indicators of performance and quality metrics and ensure compliance with data

related policies, standards, roles and responsibilities, and adoption requirements

• Lead teams comprising resources from the Business and Functional areas, work with IT business

and operations functions, to achieve their objectives; resolve issues escalated from Business

and Functional teams within Global Finance

• Lead and collaborate with developers to develop the data quality rules engine and

supporting processes to drive data quality checks and curation process

• Document processes for resolving data discrepancy issues or for quality requirements

• Create and manage contact lists for all source and consuming systems to address data

discrepancy or data governance needs.

• Work at an enterprise level of interaction with responsibilities of providing data to multiple

consuming systems where the actions taken must be very well defined not to impact

revenue-generating business activities or managing data volumes at extremely high levels

where the process and quality are more complex due to the nature of the volume or data.

• Carefully evaluate problems and provide input into a large number of possible solutions before selecting one option.

• Be the data quality and management point of contact to address technical and functional questions

Basic Qualifications:

• Candidate should have 5-8 years of data management & quality experience or other equivalent job

experiences

• The position requires a college or university degree or equivalent experience

• Background would include working experience with Query writing, data analysis  and other analytical

tools. Full Office Product knowledge is required

• The position requires solid knowledge of company products, services, product applications and their business model as well as a global business understanding

• Change management skills are required to develop a cooperative work environment with others inside and outside the department along with strong written and spoken communication skills with a variety of audiences.
