The Azure Storage team is seeking Software Engineers (IC4) to develop and refine Azure Archive Storage, a globally accessible, highly scalable, and cost-effective cloud storage solution. This role focuses on distributed systems, scalability, and durability at the application and service layers, with collaboration across hardware and firmware teams. Ideal candidates have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field and 4+ years of coding experience.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with stakeholders to determine user requirements, including collaboration with hardware and firmware teams.
  • Lead identification of dependencies and development of design documents and feature implementation for Azure Archive Storage Service.
  • Mentor others to produce extensible and maintainable code used across products.
  • Provide insights that influence team direction and product design.
  • Leverage subject-matter expertise of cross-product features to drive project and release plans.
  • Serve as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), mentoring engineers and working on-call to monitor system health.
  • Proactively seek new knowledge and adapt to new trends to improve product availability, reliability, efficiency, and performance.
  • Drive consistency in monitoring and operations at scale and share knowledge with other engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, OR equivalent experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
  • Pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, OR equivalent experience.
  • Exposure and experience in building systems that understand storage constructs.
  • Knowledge in storage media technology or experience with SCSI interfaces and drivers.
  • 6+ years programming experience in developing products and services, preferably in systems and backend, with a focus on application- and service-layer development.
  • Experience in scalable distributed services.
  • Ability to work with hardware and firmware teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.

  • Base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year.
  • Base pay range in San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
