Shell seeks an experienced Automation Developer for its Connectivity Automation team in Bengaluru. The role involves designing, setting up, and maintaining the end-to-end automation ecosystem using tools like GitHub, Terraform, and Ansible Automation Platform, ensuring reliability, security, and scalability. Responsibilities include developing IaC, building Ansible playbooks, integrating systems, and providing technical guidance.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, and own end-to-end automation pipelines using GitHub Actions, Terraform/OpenTofu, and Ansible Automation Platform (AAP/AWX).
Manage the full lifecycle of the automation stack, including setup, configuration, upgrades, and decommissioning of legacy systems.
Ensure platform reliability by providing ongoing maintenance, monitoring, and break/fix support across the automation ecosystem.
Lead security remediation efforts, ensuring compliance with internal policies and industry best practices.
Develop and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using Terraform/OpenTofu for scalable and repeatable deployments.
Build and maintain Ansible playbooks and roles for orchestration, configuration management, and network automation.
Integrate automation platforms with enterprise systems via APIs (REST & Webhooks) and event-driven architectures.
Design reusable pipeline templates and frameworks to standardize automation practices across teams.
Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable automation and platform solutions.
Continuously improve performance, scalability, and developer experience of the automation platform.
Document platform architecture, operational procedures, and automation standards.
Provide technical guidance, training, and support to engineering teams adopting the platform.
Experience designing reusable pipelines, templates, and automation frameworks.
Background in IT service delivery (ITIL knowledge preferred).
Strong ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
Fluent in English.

Requirements

Minimum 5 years in IT.
Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent knowledge gained from experience.
Proven experience with CI/CD platforms, preferably GitHub Actions, including workflow design and runner management (self-hosted runners is a plus).
Strong hands-on experience with Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform or OpenTofu in production environments.
Experience with Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) and/or AWX, including playbook development and orchestration design.
Solid programming/scripting skills in Python and Bash.
Experience operating and maintaining automation platforms (monitoring, upgrades, troubleshooting, break/fix support).
Strong understanding of security best practices in CI/CD and automation (secrets management, RBAC, pipeline hardening).
Experience integrating systems using REST APIs and event-driven workflows.
Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure preferred) and cloud-native automation patterns.

Desired Qualifications

Experience with GitHub Enterprise administration.
Experience with Azure Logic Apps or similar workflow tools.
Knowledge of container platforms (Docker/Kubernetes).
Familiarity with network automation (e.g., Ansible for network devices, YANG models).
Certifications such from HashiCorp i.e. Terraform, Cisco CCNP Automation, or Red Hat Ansible Automation.
