Synopsys is seeking a Senior Thermal Application Engineer in Sweden to partner with customers on simulation strategies, build complex Multiphysics workflows for power electronics, and drive thermal-mechanical reliability predictions. This role requires expertise in power devices, simulation tools, and Python scripting, with the opportunity to influence product roadmaps and customer success.

Responsibilities

Shape customers' simulation strategies by partnering with senior power electronics teams to understand their roadmaps, reliability goals, and constraints, then define workflows aligned with their design processes
Build die-to-board Multiphysics workflows that couple electrical, thermal, and structural analysis across the substrate, package, and PCB to predict hotspots, warpage, and interconnect fatigue before they reach the lab
Drive thermal-mechanical reliability by turning mission profiles into junction temperature cycling, predicting solder fatigue, wire bond lift-off, and delamination, and correlating the results with power cycling and test data
Lead technical evaluations and benchmarks that show measurable impact
Challenge fragile workflows, bring R&D feature requests grounded in real problems, and help shape the product roadmap
Scale expertise by creating best practices, application notes, and training materials
Support field and digital marketing by contributing to technical content, customer case studies, and industry events focused on thermal-mechanical and reliability for power semiconductor applications

Requirements

MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or BS with 5+ years of professional experience in an engineering software or power electronics design environment
Subject matter expertise in power electronics, ideally with industry experience in power converters, power modules, or power management ICs structural mechanics and reliability
Demonstrated use of commercial EDA or CAE software such as circuit simulators, electromagnetic field solvers, or thermal/mechanical reliability tools in a professional or research setting
Proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, and workflow integration
Comfort working in Linux environments and navigating complex multi-tool simulation flows
Fluency in English, both written and spoken, with the ability to communicate complex technical tradeoffs clearly to engineers and executives
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time

Desired Qualifications

Experience applying AI/ML or agentic AI to engineering simulation is a strong plus
You do not wait for perfect documentation or a complete dataset. You work with what you have, fill gaps through smart questions, and move forward without creating chaos downstream
You are organized enough to juggle multiple customer evaluations, a product beta test, and a conference presentation without dropping threads, and you know when to escalate or ask for help
You have the technical credibility to challenge a customer's assumptions or a product team's feature priority when you see a better path, and you do it in a way that builds trust instead of friction
You treat every customer's engagement like it matters because you know that a good technical win this quarter turns into a long-term partnership, and a bad handoff turns into churn
You are comfortable presenting to senior engineering managers and C-level executives, translating simulation results and workflow improvements into business outcomes they care about
