Responsibilities

  • Deep understanding of the Java language, runtime behavior, bytecode compatibility, and common library APIs
  • Dependency Management (Maven)
  • Backward Compatibility Analysis (Ability to review release notes and changelogs to identify breaking API changes, behavior modifications, or deprecated features between library versions)
  • Patch Management (Ability to create, maintain, and resolve merge conflicts)
  • Static Analysis (Experience resolving compilation failures)
  • Strong debugging skills to identify why an unrelated team's test failed after upgrading a foundational library (e.g., subtle behavioral changes, threading issues, reflection problems)
  • Unit testing
