Are you passionate about AI and shaping the future of applications? The OneNote team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build intelligent, dynamic notebooks with Copilot. You will work on large-scale services, grounding capabilities, and agent support across web and mobile platforms, using best-in-class infrastructure to drive developer productivity and engineering velocity.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to determine user requirements for features.
  • Drive identification of dependencies and development of design documents.
  • Lead by example and mentor others in Agentic Engineering.
  • Leverage subject-matter expertise of product features and partner with stakeholders on project and release plans.
  • Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) in rotation.
  • Guide engineers on-call to monitor system/product feature/service health and restore services for simple issues.
  • Stay current with developments to improve availability, reliability, efficiency, usability, observability, and performance of products.
  • Leverage existing work from peers, internal Microsoft solutions, and open-source/industry solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline AND 4+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, OR equivalent experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
  • Pass Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ years experience with modern AI technologies, including Generative AI, large language models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) based solutions, and cloud-scale data platforms.
  • 1+ years leveraging AI Coding Agents to develop product features.
  • Background in working with large-scale, distributed systems.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Fabric, AWS or similar cloud computing platforms.
  • Demonstrated ownership of complex engineering projects and effective cross-team collaboration.

Benefits

  • Typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year.
  • Different range applicable to specific work locations (San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area): USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
  • Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
