Microsoft is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Substrate Core Authentication team to build and maintain secure, highly available distributed services. This hybrid role offers end-to-end feature ownership and participation in an on-call rotation, focusing on authentication and authorization for millions of users globally.
Responsibilities
- End-to-end ownership of a feature area related to authentication/authorization, responsible for all aspects of designing, developing and deploying the solution.
- Close interactions with cross-functional discipline contributors (product managers, architects, security engineers, support engineers).
- Participation in the on-call rotation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
- OR equivalent experience.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Desired Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
- OR equivalent experience.
- Design, implementation, debugging and testing of complex distributed services.
- Customer/government security screening requirements, including Microsoft Cloud Background check.
- Basic knowledge of Distributed Systems and Cloud Technologies.
- Basic knowledge of authentication protocols.
- Experience driving a complex multi-year infrastructure project.
- 3+ years of experience building commercial grade software, with much of that experience in a large scale, high availability service.
- Effective communication skills and experience working across disciplines and functions.
Benefits
- The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year.
- There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
