In short

Ericsson is establishing a new R&D center in Yokohama, Japan, focused on Radio and Software development. They are seeking a Radio HW Digital Designer to contribute to the full product lifecycle of future radio systems. This role involves design studies, system architecture analysis, high-speed link budget analysis, component evaluation, IC verification, hardware integration, and system-level performance verification.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and development of future radio products, from prototypes to product development and field support.
  • Participate in early design studies and system-level architecture analysis.
  • Perform system modeling and high-speed link budget analysis.
  • Evaluate and qualify new components.
  • Develop and execute test scripts for IC verification.
  • Integrate, configure, and tune radio hardware during the design phase.
  • Perform system-level performance verification and validation.
  • Support end-to-end system performance analysis throughout product development.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree with extensive relevant experience may also be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in digital circuit design.
  • Experience with high-speed interfaces (e.g., SerDes).
  • Experience with timing analysis.
  • Experience with signal integrity (SI) design.
  • Experience in board bring-up, debugging, and system-level root cause analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with schematic design and PCB layout review tools (Cadence, Altium, or Allegro).
  • Strong understanding of high-speed design guidelines and SI/PI considerations.
  • Solid understanding of system architecture (CPU-based systems, FPGA applications, power distribution systems, clock design).
  • Knowledge of EMC, thermal design, and product compliance, including validation and certification support.
  • Fluent in English; Japanese is a strong advantage.
  • Experience working in Agile and Lean environments.
  • Understanding of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM).

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with SI/PI simulation tools (nice to have) (HyperLynx, Ansys, SiSoft, ADS, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with lab equipment (Oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal source analyzers).
  • Strong understanding of design trade-offs (power, noise, performance).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong problem-solving and innovative mindset.
  • Excellent cross-functional communication skills (engineering, system, and product teams).
  • Strong interest in knowledge sharing and collaboration.
  • Result-driven, quality-focused, and service-minded approach.
  • Continuous learning mindset and curiosity for radio product development.

Benefits

  • Outstanding opportunity to use your skills and imagination to push the boundaries of what's possible.
  • Be challenged, but not alone; join a team of diverse innovators.
  • Opportunity to build solutions never seen before to some of the world’s toughest problems.
