Qualcomm is seeking a PWB Designer to join their PCB CAD team in San Diego. This role involves designing and documenting printed circuit boards using Siemens/Mentor tools, collaborating with engineering teams, and ensuring designs meet project goals and manufacturing standards. The ideal candidate will have at least 1+ years of CAD experience and a technical degree.
Responsibilities
- Design and document printed circuit board (PCB) layouts that conform to manufacturing and industry standards and Qualcomm design guidelines, using supplied schematics and electrical/mechanical design constraints.
- Develop PCB layouts that meet all project goals and requirements for a variety of 5G designs across multiple business units, including R&D, Mobile, Compute, IoT, Infrastructure, Automotive, and Test Equipment.
- Learn and develop proficiency with the PCB CAD tools utilized at Qualcomm: Siemens/Mentor Xpedition, Siemens Valor, and Downstream Technologies Blueprint.
- Evaluate PCB design trade-offs necessary to meet design requirements and produce high-quality, cost-effective boards that meet project schedule objectives.
- Maintain technical coordination with Engineering and Manufacturing; resolve PCB design issues with fabrication and assembly vendors.
- Understand and apply PCB technology and process trends to Qualcomm designs.
- Communicate effectively with project peers and engineering personnel via e-mail and Teams meetings, including regular status reports and presentation slides.
- Understand project goals and individual contribution toward those goals.
Requirements
- 1+ years of experience using CAD software tools to design PCBs for electronics packaging
- Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical constraint drawings
- Experience with electronic file exchanges between PCB and mechanical software tools
- Basic understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM) requirements
- Associate’s degree in electronics, electrical technology, or a related technical field preferred
- Experience with PCB CAD tools such as Siemens Xpedition, Cadence Allegro, PADS, or Altium
- Basic understanding of electronic components, digital and analog circuits, and component placement and routing strategies
- Familiarity with PCB design practices and industry standards
- Knowledge of PCB stack-up development and controlled impedance requirements
- Understanding of PCB via technology types: through-hole, blind, buried, and micro-via
- Knowledge of power distribution strategies in digital and analog designs
- Awareness of power and signal integrity design practices and analysis
- Understanding of PCB fabrication and assembly processes, capabilities, and limitations
- Associate’s degree in a Technical Field, Electronics preferred
- Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field and 2+ years of PCB layout handling or related work experience OR High School diploma or equivalent and 4+ years of PCB layout handling or related work experience.
