Microsoft Security is looking for a Principal Software Engineering Manager to lead a team focused on building foundational services for next-generation security products. This role involves defining technical strategy, influencing product direction, and fostering engineering excellence in a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the technical vision, architecture, and long-term roadmap for strategic security platform investments.
  • Lead and grow a high-performing engineering team through coaching, talent development, performance management, and succession planning.
  • Deliver reliable, scalable, and secure cloud services while maintaining high standards for engineering excellence, quality, and operational rigor.
  • Partner closely with Product Management, Data Science, Security Research, and partner engineering teams to align priorities and execute on customer-focused outcomes.
  • Drive service health, incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvements in reliability, availability, and compliance.
  • Influence cross-organization strategy, build stakeholder alignment, and ensure successful execution of complex, multi-team initiatives from conception through release.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check required upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years people management experience.
  • Experience building and operating online services and fault-tolerant distributed systems.
  • Experience creating and shipping V1 products using modern development practices.
  • Experience using agile methodologies or test-driven development (TDD).

Benefits

  • The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $142,800 - $274,800 per year.
  • There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
